Animal Attack News Roundup - Hank the Tank, The Ukraine Zoo Extraction Project, and More

Animal Attack News Roundup - Hank the Tank, The Ukraine Zoo Extraction Project, and More

April 4, 2022

Hey everyone, here's another roundup of animal attack headlines that have popped up over the past month or so that we thought you'd all be interested in hearing about. By popular demand, Wes goes in depth on the Hank the Tank situation and has a take that might surprise some of you. By slightly less popular demand Mike talks about smuggling snakes across the border in pants. Jeff covers a hard reality of what's happening in Ukraine at the moment as it pertains to their animals and zoos. We also have a take or two to share about Will Smith at the Oscars.

We hope you all enjoy the episode!

Camel Attack - The Tennessee Camel Rampage

Camel Attack - The Tennessee Camel Rampage

March 20, 2022

On this episode, we're talking about camels. In light of the recent attack that resulted in the tragic death of two people at a Tennessee petting zoo, Wes put together a little smorgasbord of camel attack stories to explain why a camel might become so aggressive and the dangers they can present if we aren't careful around them. Also on this episode, Jeff can't actually close his nose like a camel (we have video proof) and Mike has many misconceptions about what's in a camel hump and why they exist.

Great White Shark Attack - The Surfer and the Shark at Monterey Bay

Great White Shark Attack - The Surfer and the Shark at Monterey Bay

March 6, 2022

On this episode, we have another shark attack on our hands (fins?) and Wes, as always, did a great job researching and preparing to talk through the story of one surfer's unlucky encounter with a great white shark. He also waxes poetic about his love for sharks, but what else is new? Meanwhile, Jeff reveals his cute animal theory to the world, and Mike wishes sharks would explore our bodies a little more gently.

HARAMBE - The Western Lowland Gorilla

HARAMBE - The Western Lowland Gorilla

February 20, 2022

Hey everyone, welcome to another episode of Tooth and Claw. In a first, Jeff takes the lead and does a great job of taking us all through the tragic tale of Harambe, the western lowland gorilla who was shot and killed in his enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo in 2016. He also shares a couple of other stories that, while shockingly similar, end on a happier note. So while Jeff takes over storytelling duties, Wes makes sure to still provide a lot of good gorilla biology and behavioral insight. Plus, he does his deepest dive yet on cage match as he finally pits gorilla vs grizzly! Mike becomes his own worst enemy when he accidentally spoils his pop culture gorilla pick 3 seconds early. We hope you all enjoy the show!

R.I.P., Harambe. You may be gone, but you won't be forgotten.

Animal Attack News Roundup - Eko the Tiger, the Serial Squirrel, and Monkeyin’ Around

Animal Attack News Roundup - Eko the Tiger, the Serial Squirrel, and Monkeyin’ Around

February 6, 2022

Welcome back to Tooth and Claw! On today's episode, we finally get around to talking about the incident down in a Florida zoo involving Eko the tiger, and share our thoughts on what the fallout of the unfortunate incident was and should be. But first, we kick things of with a couple of cute animals getting up to no good, and Jeff comes up with a new segment to great (horrifying?) success.

Afterwards, we wrap it up with a batch of listener questions. We hope you enjoy!

Grizzly Bear Attack - Night of the Grizzly: Part 3 - The Aftermath

January 23, 2022

This is the third and final episode of Night of the Grizzly. On this episode, Wes walks us through the immediate aftermath of the worst night in the history of Glacier National Park, and how it completely altered how we look at and deal with grizzly bears, as well as how much needed to change in park visitor safety. If you haven't heard parts 1 and 2 yet, we strongly recommend you do, as Wes prepared like a man possessed to tell the story as accurately as possible. It has been a total labor of love, and we couldn't be happier to share the concluding chapter with all of you. Thank you for listening.

Grizzly Bear Attack - Night of the Grizzly: Part 2 - Trout Lake

January 16, 2022

This is part 2 of Night of the Grizzly, the tragic story of two grizzly attacks occurring on the same night in Glacier National Park. Once again, Wes prepared like mad to get this episode to be as informative and entertaining as possible, so we think you all are going to really like it. Thanks for listening!

Grizzly Bear Attack - Night of the Grizzly: Part 1 - The Granite Park Chalet

Grizzly Bear Attack - Night of the Grizzly: Part 1 - The Granite Park Chalet

January 9, 2022

On this episode, we begin what is almost certainly our most ambitious project yet with part 1 of Night of the Grizzly, the tragic story of two grizzly attacks occurring on the same night in Glacier National Park. Wes prepared like a madman to get this episode to be as accurate and entertaining as possible, so we think you all are going to really enjoy it. Jeff makes another ill-advised bet but turns it around with some quick thinking, and Mike almost gets outed for dumpster diving for donuts.

Cobra Attack - Suraj Strikes Twice

Cobra Attack - Suraj Strikes Twice

December 17, 2021

Hey everyone, welcome back to another episode of Tooth and Claw. Today, Wes takes us through the cobra attack that took place in the South Indian state of Kerala just a couple of months ago. There's a lot of intrigue and an unusual amount of evil going on in this episode compared to most of our others, so hang on to your seats. Wes proposes we bring back the old Eye for an Eye justice, Jeff has questions about puberty, Mike opens up about Jafar, Jasmine, and his trust issues, and somehow the guys are still arguing about cake and ice cream.

Thanks for listening! And if you have a moment to spare, head over to Apple Podcasts and leave us a rating and a review, it really does go a long way to help us. Thanks again!

Animal Attack News Roundup - Toilet Snakes, A Storm of Scorpions, and The Aporkalypse

Animal Attack News Roundup - Toilet Snakes, A Storm of Scorpions, and The Aporkalypse

December 4, 2021

On this episode of Tooth and Claw, we cover some of the more noteworthy animal attacks that have occurred recently (Jeff breaks this rule. Kind of. But what do we expect at this point...) Wes of course does his best to make sense of Jeff and Mike's stories, and manages to teach us some important lessons we can take away from it all, which is a tall order since we bring up exotic dancing monkeys, more of everyone's favorite recurring segment Coyote's be Wylin', and other other similarly wild stories.

Thanks to everyone who submitted headlines and stories you wanted us to cover, we definitely do look at them and in some cases use them on these episodes! And thank you to everyone who has left us a review on Apple Podcasts. It really does make a big difference for us in getting our show discovered by other listeners. You're the best!
